Jiu-jitsu coach faces life in prison for child abuse

A pre-trial investigation has been completed in Kyiv into a 37-year-old athlete who sexually abused children for years under the guise of one-on-one training sessions.

This was reported by the Kyiv Police.

The well-known coach, who raped 11-year-old girls in Zaporizhzhia and the capital, faces life imprisonment for the crimes committed.

The perpetrator turned out to be a native of Zaporizhzhia, a well-known athlete and founder of a public sports organization, who had been working with children for a long time.

The man used the format of private Brazilian jiu-jitsu lessons to carry out his criminal intentions, remaining unpunished for eight years.

Law enforcement officials determined that the former well-known athlete and founder of a public sports organization had concealed his criminal activities for a long time.

He used the guise of conducting private sports lessons—first in Zaporizhzhia, and then in Kyiv, where he had been living in recent years.

At least two girls fell victim to the coach; each was only 11 years old when the abuse began.

The investigation established that the accused not only molested his students but also engaged in sexual relations with them directly in the training halls.

The suspect was apprehended last October after his actions were captured by a hidden camera installed in the gym.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko reported that the perpetrator was caught during another attempt to molest a child.

“Due to the publicity surrounding the case, another victim—a former student from Zaporizhzhia—recognized him. He committed his first crimes back in 2017. He remained unpunished for eight years,” the attorney general noted in his statement regarding the progress of the case.

The second victim, who is currently abroad, only dared to speak out about her ordeal after news of the coach’s arrest broke.

One of the victims had a specific medical condition, which prevented her from resisting or telling adults what was happening for a long time.
