Three prosecutors lost their jobs in the wake of Operation Carthage
Maria Vdovichenko submitted her resignation from the position of First Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine. Victoria Didych and Maxim Shtompel also lost their positions at the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The day before, the Prosecutor General had also announced his resignation.
This occurred after the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) released audio recordings related to the “Carthage” case. According to media reports, Vdovichenko is believed to be featured in the recordings released by the anti-corruption agencies.
As for Didych, according to open sources, she worked for many years in one of the departments of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Shtompel had served as deputy head of the regional prosecutor’s office since April of this year. The order for their dismissal was signed by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Earlier, media reports indicated that Viktoria Didych is the sister of Serhiy Kropiva, who is suspected of organizing a scheme to provide “protection” for illegal call centers and launder assets worth over 89 million hryvnias. Her husband, Oleksandr Didych, is also implicated in the case. Like Kropiva, the High Anti-Corruption Court has imposed a preventive measure on him.
