Three officials at a Transcarpathian prison have been charged in connection with a large-scale food theft
In Zakarpattia, law enforcement officials successfully uncovered and shut down a large-scale scheme to embezzle food supplies at Penitentiary Institution No. 9.
The organizers of the scheme embezzled nearly a ton of frozen meat and fish that the state had officially purchased to provide for the daily rations of inmates.
Currently, official charges of criminal misconduct have been filed against the deputy head of the facility responsible for logistics and utilities, the assistant to the head on duty, and the lead engineer.
According to the investigation, the mastermind of the scheme established a permanent channel for the removal and sale of food products that the state had purchased to feed the inmates.
To successfully carry out this scheme and systematically remove goods from the prison, the perpetrators enlisted the help of certain prison staff and even some inmates.
The goods were written off using forged internal documentation, after which the scarce products were removed from the facility and sold in retail outlets.
This was reported by the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine.
