Ukraine and Canada are expanding their defense cooperation in the areas of air defense, drones, and ammunition

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov held talks with Canadian Minister of National Defense David McGinty, during which the two sides outlined next steps to strengthen the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The main focus of the talks was ballistic missile defense, specifically continued support under the PURL mechanism and the possibility of procuring PAC-3 missiles through the Jumpstart initiative.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian side thanked its partners for the AIM-9 missiles for F-16 fighter jets, delivered with logistical support from Belgium, which help counter air threats from Russia. Fedorov also called on Canada to increase investment in Ukrainian drone production through the “Danish model” and to fund the procurement of long-range artillery ammunition under the Czech Initiative. In addition, the ministers discussed joint defense-industrial projects and the supply of diesel pickup trucks for frontline needs.

This was reported by Ukrinform.

The Canadian government is discussing with Ukraine the possibility of sending some firearms—the use of which it has banned—to help deter Russia on the battlefield.

The House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament approved the allocation of 764 million Canadian dollars (approximately 587 million U.S. dollars) in military aid to Ukraine. It also approved the allocation of financial assistance and funds for humanitarian demining.
