More than 20 children have been poisoned in Bukovel; four of them are in serious condition

More than 20 schoolchildren from the Ternopil region were poisoned while on vacation at a hotel in the Bukovel resort. Four children in serious condition were hospitalized in the infectious diseases ward of the Yaremche City Hospital. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.

As Galina Ratushnyak, the mother of one of the affected girls, told Ukrinform, the condition of the tenth-graders is improving.

“The children are getting better. I took my child home from the hospital yesterday. She has been prescribed further treatment at home. Her body is weakened, but considering everything that happened, she is feeling much better,” Galina said.

She noted that the hotel management did not contact the parents and, moreover, did not take responsibility on the day of the incident.

“I left for Bukovel last night with another mother. On the way, I called the hotel and asked them to help the parents save the children, because it was happening on a massive scale—children were passing out, everyone was vomiting and having diarrhea. The administration showed no concern whatsoever,” the woman said.

In total, more than 20 children were affected. Four were hospitalized—they were taken to the infectious diseases ward of the Yaremcha City Hospital in serious condition. The others sought medical attention individually.

Earlier, tenth-graders from Ternopil, along with their homeroom teacher and parents, went to the Carpathians for the weekend to climb Mount Sinyak. However, out of 26 students, 21 fell ill at a hotel in the village of Polianytsia with acute gastroenterocolitis. Parents called the police on the night of May 24, and the incident was officially recorded. Investigators and representatives of the State Food and Consumer Service arrived at the hotel to examine the circumstances, as well as the conditions of the children’s meals and accommodations.
