Cherkasy plans to sharply increase bus fares
Cherkasy has launched the official process of reviewing public transportation fares. The Executive Committee of the Cherkasy City Council has approved the start of drafting a corresponding regulatory act, which provides for a significant increase in prices and the introduction of different ticket prices depending on the payment method.
According to the published draft decision, a differentiated fare is planned to be introduced on city buses operating as route taxis. If a passenger pays by card (bank card, NFC device, or e-ticket), the fare will be 25 hryvnias.
At the same time, if paying in cash, the price will be significantly higher—30 hryvnias per trip. Currently, the fare on Cherkasy minibuses is 13 hryvnias, so the new rates mean a price increase of at least double.
City council officials emphasize that this is only the beginning of the regulatory process. Before a final decision is made, the draft document must undergo mandatory public consultation, during which proposals from city residents and transport operators will be reviewed and considered. Only after all stages required by law have been completed will the executive committee vote to approve the new fares. Additionally, at the same meeting, members of the executive committee approved temporary traffic restrictions on several city streets due to repair work.
This was reported by the Cherkasy City Council.
Klitschko called the 30-hryvnia fare for travel in Kyiv too low.
Viktor Mykhailovych Vyhivskyi, head of the Kyiv Metro municipal enterprise, explained what the actual cost of transportation consists of and why the current fare is significantly lower than the cost price, which is determined by expenses for electricity, salaries, and staff shortages.
The Kyiv City Council was unable to pass a resolution that would have allowed negotiations to begin with international partners regarding a loan for the construction of the metro line to Troieschyna.
