In Kyiv, the former leader of a disbanded political party was selling a seat in the Verkhovna Rada for $160,000
In Kyiv, a case involving the head of a political party—whose registration had been revoked—was referred to court on suspicion of fraud. According to the investigation, the man promised a citizen a spot on the electoral list and a seat in parliament.
According to the case file, the 41-year-old Kyiv resident offered the victim the opportunity to join his political project and secure a “winnable” spot on the list for the parliamentary elections. He demanded $160,000 for the chance to become a member of parliament.
Of this amount, $100,000 was allegedly to be an initiation fee for the party, and another $60,000 was to be used for its development. At the same time, as law enforcement established, the party was not actually active, and its registration had been revoked.
The man was arrested in November 2025 while receiving the money. He is charged with attempted fraud to appropriate another person’s property, committed under martial law and on an especially large scale.
The indictment has now been submitted to the court. The defendant was ordered to remain in custody, with the option to post bail of nearly 1 million hryvnias. He has paid the bail. Under the charged offense, he faces a sentence of imprisonment.
This was reported on July 17 by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
As a reminder, in Zaporizhzhia, law enforcement officials completed an investigation into members of an organized group who set up a fraudulent call center and swindled money from citizens of Kazakhstan. The indictment against the three suspects has already been submitted to the court.
Law enforcement officials uncovered an organized group that used a fraudulent call center to swindle money from citizens of Ukraine and European Union countries. According to preliminary data, the total amount of losses exceeds 2.7 million hryvnias.
