A rare 1986 armored Mercedes S-Class was spotted in Kyiv

A rare 1986 Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126 armored sedan was spotted in Kyiv. According to car enthusiasts, only 349 of these vehicles were produced.

Armored versions of the Mercedes W126 were produced from 1986 to 1992. These cars were typically used by government agencies, diplomatic missions, and other high-ranking officials.

The model was factory-armored with steel protective elements, bulletproof glass, and special tires that allow the vehicle to continue moving even after a puncture.

Despite the additional protection, the car’s exterior is virtually indistinguishable from that of the standard Mercedes S-Class W126. At the same time, the interior retained its premium trim of leather or velour and wood, as well as a wide range of features, including climate control, power-adjustable and heated seats, an audio system, and window shades.

The model spotted in the capital is a Mercedes 560 SEL with a 5.5-liter V8 gasoline engine producing 279 horsepower and a four-speed automatic transmission. Due to the additional weight of the armor, this model falls short of the standard version in terms of performance and top speed.

Photos of the car were posted on July 9 on the t.o.p.c.a.r.s_ua Instagram page, according to Focus.

As a reminder, a $350,000 Maybach was spotted in Kyiv: who is behind this luxury car?
