Traffic patterns on the Podil and Pivdenny Bridges in Kyiv will be changed during alerts
Kyiv plans to improve transportation links between the left and right banks of the Dnipro River during air raid alerts. Specifically, the traffic patterns on the Podil Bridge and the South Bridge will be updated.
Specifically, in accordance with a decision by the Kyiv City Defense Council, the update to the temporary traffic management plan on the Podil Bridge will be completed during the day on September 10.
On the South Bridge, vehicle traffic will be allowed from the right bank to the left bank, with a 30-minute closure following the start and end of an air raid alert.
An updated temporary traffic management plan has already been developed and approved by the Kyiv Patrol Police Department, which will ensure vehicle traffic in both directions — from the left bank to the right bank and from the right bank to the left bank — during air raid alerts.
Specifically, traffic on the Podil Bridge will be organized as follows:
Vehicles traveling from the left bank to the right bank will move continuously, with lanes narrowing to two where oncoming traffic exits;
from the right bank to the left bank, traffic will initially flow as before, after which vehicles will temporarily move to the opposite side of the bridge and continue traveling in two lanes.
Vehicles will then return to their original side of the bridge.
Traffic will also be allowed across the South Bridge from the right bank to the left bank of the Dnipro River.
At the same time, traffic will be temporarily suspended for 30 minutes after an alert is issued and for 30 minutes after it is lifted, regardless of the alert level.
Once the temporary traffic suspension ends, access to the South Bridge from Naddniprianske and Stolichne Shosse will resume.
The Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Transportation Infrastructure emphasizes that bus service across the South Bridge remains unchanged.
Buses No. 22 and No. 91 will continue to operate according to their previously modified routes, under the numbers 22-D, 22-T, 91-D, and 91-T.
At the same time, buses Nos. 110, 111, and 112 will operate across the Podil Bridge without restrictions during yellow and red alert levels, following the completion of the relevant work, in accordance with the approved traffic management plan.
The implementation of the updated temporary traffic plan is intended to ensure more stable transportation connections between the left and right banks of the capital during air raid alerts and is being carried out in accordance with a decision by the Kyiv City Defense Council.
