An incident occurred in Lviv in which two cows were left in a truck for nearly a day without water, food, or proper care. According to preliminary information, this happened after the driver of the vehicle was apparently mobilized by representatives of the TCC and SP.
The animals were left locked in the truck unattended, which alarmed witnesses. Investigators are currently looking into all the circumstances of the incident, as well as how assistance for the animals was organized afterward.
According to animal rights activists, the animals were in a truck parked near the “Vlasta” hotel. The activists claim they called the police; however, in their opinion, law enforcement did not take the necessary measures to protect the animals.
“All regulations governing the transport of animals have been violated. These cows have been in the truck since last night—almost a full day without water or milking,” the foundation said in a statement.
"Home for Rescued Animals" also reported that the farm owner who was transporting the livestock had been taken to a regional assembly and social support center the day before. After that, the activists claim, the animals were left without proper care.
According to representatives of the foundation, after the police arrived, the owner’s relatives were offered the option to either take the cows themselves or allow animal welfare activists to do so, but they allegedly refused both options.
“As it turns out, they (the driver’s relatives—Channel 24) are deliberately not taking the animals so they can use this as leverage. All the talk boils down to nothing but accusations against the state and the TCC. Meanwhile, the cows remain there, and no one is going to take them away. One of them is crying out in pain because her udder is so full,” the foundation stated.
The foundation added that animals should not become hostages to human conflicts.
“You can take any position on the government’s actions. You can argue, express outrage, and defend your rights. But why should animals pay the price for human conflicts?” the animal rights activists noted.
As of the time of publication, there was no official statement from the police or the regional recruitment and social support center regarding this situation.
