A mother and daughter were arrested in Pervomaisk for a sham marriage scheme
On June 29 in Pervomaisk, law enforcement officers detained a 55-year-old woman and her 37-year-old daughter, who, according to the investigation, organized a scheme to illegally smuggle a person subject to military conscription across the state border. The suspects’ fee for this service was estimated at 3,000 U.S. dollars.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspects after they registered their marriage and received their marriage certificate. Investigators have already informed them that they are suspected of organizing the illegal smuggling of individuals across the country’s state border for financial gain. The suspects face up to nine years in prison.

Investigators and operatives from the Pervomaisky District Police Department, with operational support from the Migration Police Department and the participation of specialists from the Criminal Analysis Department of the Regional Police Headquarters, under the procedural supervision of the Pervomaisky District Prosecutor’s Office, uncovered the criminal scheme involving the two relatives.

During the pre-trial investigation and operational activities, police established that a 55-year-old woman had found a man subject to military conscription among her acquaintances and offered him a sham marriage to her 37-year-old daughter. The woman assured her client that her daughter had a Category III disability, which, according to current legislation, would allow the man to legally accompany his disabled wife while crossing the state border, according to the Mykolaiv Regional Police.
