Russian strikes on Ukraine’s gas production infrastructure could lead to a fuel shortage.
This was stated on May 22 on the “Novyny.LIVE” TV channel by Oleksiy Kucherenko, a member of parliament and first deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on energy and housing and communal services. According to him, Russian troops are attacking gas wells and collection hubs almost daily.
"We may face a certain gas shortage. This does not mean that gas will disappear entirely. But the enemy, as far as I understand, wants to create disruptions in gas supply. It is no coincidence that in recent weeks, months, and days, Russia has been striking gas production facilities. First and foremost, Naftogaz of Ukraine," the lawmaker noted.
He added that, in fact, Russia is deliberately attacking gas wells or gathering stations on a daily basis. According to him, a gas shortage could create serious problems for major cities, as the operation of backup heat supply sources depends on the availability of "blue fuel."
"Power generation also depends on gas. And therefore, the protection of gas infrastructure facilities and reserve gas in storage facilities must be one of the key priorities," Kucherenko emphasized.
