The Regional Council reported the kidnapping of Deputy Commander Stepan Kaplunov
According to a statement from the unit, Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander for combat operations of the Russian Volunteer Corps, was abducted by unknown individuals in the courtyard of his home several days ago. The soldier’s whereabouts remain unknown at this time.
The Russian Volunteer Corps reported that following Kaplunov’s disappearance, they contacted the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), and the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR). At the same time, they state that they have not yet received any clear information regarding the soldier’s whereabouts or any possible charges against him.
What is known about Kaplunov’s abduction?
After Kaplunov’s disappearance became known, representatives of the RDK immediately contacted the GUR, the SBU, and the DBR and reported the situation.
According to them, there is still no clear information regarding Kaplunov’s whereabouts or the charges brought against him.
The RDK states that ombudsmen have been involved in the matter, and lawyers have submitted the relevant inquiries.
The organization also emphasized that Kaplunov had been honored with an award about a month ago, yet he has now been detained.
RDK Chief of Staff Oleksandr Fortuna stated that such a situation is unacceptable in a state governed by the rule of law. He called for ensuring the rule of law and preventing the arbitrary actions of law enforcement agencies.
“If Ukraine is a state governed by the rule of law—and not a territory sliding into lawlessness and the total arbitrariness of law enforcement agencies, as is the case, for example, in the Russian Federation—then this is simply unacceptable!” Fortuna emphasized.

Earlier, Zelenskyy warned that Russia was preparing a new large-scale attack.
Currently, 11 deaths have been reported in Kyiv, and July 7 has been declared a day of mourning in the capital.
The Russians last launched a massive attack on Ukraine on the night of June 30. At that time, Russian forces launched 496 UAVs of various types and 74 missiles—air-, ground-, and sea-based—of various types at Ukraine.
