Ukraine Received €1.24 Billion from the EU for Drones and Missiles

The European Union has allocated an additional €1.24 billion to Ukraine for defense needs. The funds will be used, in particular, for drones, interceptors, ammunition for unmanned aerial vehicles, and Ukrainian-made missiles. The total amount of defense funding for Ukraine under this program has now reached nearly €13 billion.

Ukraine has received a new tranche from the European Union for defense needs. The amount is €1.24 billion as part of the Ukraine Support Loan program. The European Commission announced the allocation of funds on October 7. Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi also announced the new tranche.

The European Commission noted that the funds will be used for specific Ukrainian defense needs. These include drones, drone-interception systems, ammunition for unmanned systems, and missiles manufactured by Ukrainian companies.

“The European Commission today allocated 1.24 billion euros as part of the defense component of the 90-billion-euro Ukraine Support Loan. The funding covers drones, drone interceptors, ammunition for drones, and missiles manufactured by Ukrainian companies,” the European Commission stated.

Thus, a portion of the European funds will go directly to Ukrainian manufacturing. This involves not only the purchase of finished weapons but also support for companies that produce the equipment and ammunition needed by the military.

What the European Commission Said

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the new funding should help Ukraine strengthen its own defense industry. She also linked the allocation of funds to the need to protect Ukrainians from Russian attacks. “Russia continues its deliberate strategy of terror—it is trying to make everyday life unbearable for Ukrainians. Today’s disbursement will help strengthen Ukraine’s defense industry and its ability to defend itself—to protect people and infrastructure,” von der Leyen said.

According to her, support for Ukrainian manufacturing should strengthen Ukraine’s ability to withstand Russian attacks and protect the civilian population and critical infrastructure.

How much has Ukraine received so far?

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi confirmed the receipt of the new tranche. “Ukraine has received another 1.2 billion euros from the European Union as part of the Ukraine Support Loan,” he noted. According to the prime minister, following this tranche, the total amount of defense funding for Ukraine under the program has reached nearly €13 billion.

Koretskyi noted that Ukraine will use the new funds for priority defense needs. “We will direct the funds toward priority defense needs,” the prime minister said. This funding is intended to help the Ukrainian military obtain the necessary weapons and equipment, and to enable Ukrainian companies to continue production for the front lines.

The EU promises to continue funding

The Ukrainian government also expects further funding under the program. According to Koretsky, Kyiv continues to work with European partners to ensure that the remainder of the allocated funding is received without delay. “We are continuing to work with European partners to ensure that the remainder of the allocated funding is received on time and in full,” the prime minister noted. He also thanked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, and EU member states for their support of Ukraine.

The new tranche is the latest installment of the European Union’s financial assistance to Ukraine. This time, the main focus was on defense needs, specifically on drones, anti-drone systems, and Ukrainian-made missiles. This was reported on October 7 by the European Commission and Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi on social media.

The Defense Procurement Agency (DOTA) has fully contracted the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ requirement for tactical headsets for 2026. A total of 40,000 units of equipment were purchased.
