Ukraine and Germany discussed the key needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces ahead of the Ramstein meeting

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov held a telephone conversation with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, during which the parties agreed on priority areas of military support for Ukraine and preparations for the next meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues for Ukraine in the “Ramstein” format.

According to Fedorov, one of the main topics of the talks was the supply of PAC-3 missiles for Patriot air defense systems through the JUMPSTART mechanism.

The ministers also discussed:

  • additional funding for the PURL program;
  • the supply of extended-range artillery ammunition under the “Czech Initiative”;
  • support for the production of Ukrainian fiber-optic FPV drones;
  • the development of middle-strike class drone production;
  • accelerating the supply of ammunition for IRIS-T air defense systems;
  • strengthening Ukraine’s anti-ballistic capabilities;
  • continued support for modern technological solutions used by the Ukrainian military on the front lines.

Separately, the parties discussed the possibility of directing the financial assistance already announced by international partners toward the most urgent needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

I am grateful to Germany for its leadership, systematic support for Ukraine, and willingness to work on solutions that are already helping to strengthen our defense today,” Fedorov noted.

The talks took place on the eve of the next meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in the “Ramstein” format, at which allies are set to discuss further steps to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Mykhailo Fedorov reported this on Telegram.

Ukraine and NATO agreed on key defense priorities ahead of the next meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. During the coordination, the parties focused on strengthening air defense, supplying ammunition, and expanding the production of Ukrainian drones.

Fedorov also noted on Telegram that among the key priorities for cooperation are: partner contributions to the PURL program; the supply of PAC-3 missiles through the JUMPSTART mechanism to strengthen anti-ballistic capabilities; long-range munitions under the Czech Initiative; and funding for the production of Ukrainian drones.

The next meeting of the Contact Group in the “Ramstein” format is scheduled for June. In addition, Ukraine plans to hold a closed-door meeting of deputy ministers to discuss the PURL mechanism. This will be the thirty-fifth meeting of the Ramstein-format Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense.
