Ukraine has increased payments to foreign volunteers to 300,000 hryvnia
The Cabinet of Ministers has increased the one-time payment for foreigners joining the Ukrainian Defense Forces from 130,000 to 300,000 hryvnias. This decision is intended to help attract more volunteers to the Foreign Legion.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Deputy Minister of Defense Vasyl Shkurakov announced this during Question Time with the government.
In addition to increasing the payments, Ukraine will change the system for selecting foreign fighters. A specialized company will be responsible for recruiting and supporting volunteers, handling the entire process—from finding candidates to undergoing a military medical examination.
The Ministry of Defense explained that the changes are driven by the need to improve the quality of selection due to instances of desertion. The company will also assess candidates’ health, and if a volunteer does not meet the requirements for service, it will ensure their return to their country of origin.
