The Ukrainian spelling rules have officially come into effect as a standard

The "Ukrainian Spelling" standard for the state language has come into effect in Ukraine.

This was announced by the National Commission on State Language Standards.

The relevant decision took effect on March 28 following the repeal of the previous Cabinet of Ministers resolution from 2019.

The text of the new standard has already been published on the Commission’s official website.

It is noted that the standard is mandatory for use in all areas defined by the legislation on the state language.

At the same time, there have been no changes to the spelling rules—only editorial and technical clarifications have been made.

The Commission plans to continue working on improving spelling.

The Ukrainian language is preparing for the next phase of reform. Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna announced that the text of the new Ukrainian spelling rules has already been prepared and will be published in the near future.

As a reminder, Ukraine is preparing systemic changes in the field of state language policy. These changes include updating the current Ukrainian spelling rules and developing a glossary of legal terminology. The relevant provisions are enshrined in the Verkhovna Rada resolution “On Strengthening the Role of the Ukrainian Language in the Consolidation of the Ukrainian State,” adopted during a plenary session of parliament.
