Ukrzaliznytsia has transported more than one million passengers in two weeks
The national railway operator “Ukrzaliznytsia” posted record passenger traffic figures at the height of the summer season, successfully transporting more than 1 million passengers between June 8 and 21, 2026.
The carrier’s management noted unusually high demand for domestic travel within the country, which prompted the company to quickly adjust schedules and introduce additional trains on the busiest routes.
According to the railway carrier’s analytical data, both weeks of the first half of the month were characterized by common trends, the most significant of which was the exceptionally high demand for trips between key cities.
As expected, the most popular and heavily traveled route this summer was the Kyiv–Lviv route and its return leg.
On this route, demand for train tickets currently exceeds supply by a factor of three, creating a significant shortage of available seats in the reservation system.
To address the ticket shortage and meet passenger needs, the logistics company has reallocated its rolling stock.
Specialists have tapped into additional reserves to fulfill as many requests as possible from citizens for weekend trips.
“Here, demand for tickets exceeds supply by a factor of three. To give more people the opportunity to travel, we scheduled additional trains. These trains included cars that had previously been used on routes with lower passenger volumes,” UZ reported.
Another important factor contributing to the significant increase in pressure on the railway infrastructure in June was the mass transportation of organized groups. A significant portion of passenger traffic in June consists of organized children’s groups.
In particular, young athletes, as well as children of active-duty and fallen Ukrainian servicemen, are actively traveling by rail to health and recreation destinations.
This was reported in a statement by “Ukrzaliznytsia.”
