Water rates for residents in Uzhhorod will increase significantly
On June 24, the Executive Committee of the Uzhhorod City Council adopted a resolution to update the rates for centralized water supply and wastewater services for residents and businesses.
According to the mayor, rates in the city have not been revised since 2022, which has caused the municipal utility “Uzhhorod Vodokanal” to suffer significant financial losses.
“To cover all of ‘Vodokanal’s’ expenses, 97 million hryvnias should be allocated in the 2026 budget,” noted Bohdan Andriyiv.
Following the executive committee’s decision, the following changes were implemented: for residents—from 42.86 UAH to 76.03 UAH per cubic meter (excluding VAT); for businesses—from 44.57 UAH to 44.33 UAH per cubic meter (excluding VAT).
The decision will take effect after its official publication on the city council’s website and in local media.
Since June 1, 2026, Ukraine has seen rising water rates following the transfer of authority to set these rates to local governments.
According to experts, a number of cities have already seen increases of 80–100%, including:
- Pavlohrad — up to 113 UAH/cubic meter
- Drohobych — 87.3 UAH
- Zaporizhzhia — 69.3 UAH
- Chernivtsi — 63.5 UAH
- Borodyanka — 139.3 UAH (effective July 1)
The decision was adopted on Wednesday, June 24, at a meeting of the executive committee, Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv reported.
Water supply and wastewater treatment rates may rise in Ukraine. The Association of Ukrainian Cities stated that this will happen if the government does not compensate utilities for the multi-billion-hryvnia difference between current rates and actual costs.
Since the beginning of 2026, regional offices of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection have conducted 586 monitoring inspections at shelters and temporary accommodation sites for internally displaced persons, identifying violations of sanitaryand hygiene requirements in 106 cases.
