The Uman City Council stripped Anton Yatsenko of his honorary title
The Uman City Council has passed an official resolution to strip former Member of Parliament Anton Yatsenko of the title “Honorary Citizen of Uman.”
Local council members unanimously supported this move during a regular city council meeting.
This decision has caused a major stir amid years of high-profile scandals directly linked to the activities of this controversial political figure.
In recent years, his name has been repeatedly mentioned in numerous journalistic investigations.
These investigations concerned a financial and industrial group centered around the well-known company “Ukrplastic,” opaque influence over government procurement, the use of backroom political connections, and blatant lobbying for his own business interests.
Media representatives paid particular close attention to the alleged use of offshore structures for capital flight.
Investigators also pointed to a suspicious concentration of valuable assets among related parties, as well as a constant conflict of interest between political activity and business.
Over the years, civic activists and the media have raised questions about the dubious origins of certain fortunes and Yatsenko’s destructive influence on local political processes in the Cherkasy region.
The revocation of his honorary status was more than just a formal legal decision for the city.
For the vast majority of the community, it is a long-awaited symbolic step and a clear signal of a radical shift in attitude toward individuals whose names have been associated with corruption and reputational scandals for years.
