Ukraine Will Strengthen Security at Data Centers and Communications Facilities

Ukraine will strengthen the protection of data centers and other facilities critical to communications. Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this following a meeting of the Supreme Command Headquarters, where the discussion also covered interceptors for Russian “Shahed” drones and the production of engines in Ukraine.

Following a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced new decisions regarding the protection of data centers and other critical communications infrastructure. According to him, these facilities must operate continuously, which is why it was decided to strengthen their protection. “Additional decisions were also adopted to protect and ensure the uninterrupted operation of our data center infrastructure and other facilities that are critical to the communications sector,” Zelenskyy noted.

The president emphasized that these decisions must be implemented at all levels. According to him, government officials and heads of security agencies bear personal responsibility for this. Separately, the meeting of the Command Center discussed countering a new type of Russian drone. These are jet-powered “Shaheds,” which may be more difficult to intercept.

Zelenskyy reported that the Command Council reviewed the results of tests conducted by Ukrainian interceptors against such drones. They also discussed the performance metrics of these systems and the experience of units already engaged in interception operations. “We have identified key measures that can strengthen our defense. We are accelerating production,” the president wrote.

According to him, Ukraine also has new solutions for the production of various types of jet engines. Specifically, this involves establishing such production domestically. Another topic of discussion was the Russian military-industrial complex. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported on Russia’s technological plans for 2027. In particular, the meeting discussed the weapons Russia is counting on, its production capabilities, and the methods it uses to obtain necessary components through various supply chains. “We are adjusting our countermeasures in line with the threats,” Zelenskyy said.

Separately, the president instructed the diplomatic community to work on new sanctions against Russia. According to him, special attention must be paid to the shadow networks used to supply components to the Russian defense industry. This refers, in particular, to components for the production of drones and missiles, including ballistic missiles.

This is not the first time that the protection of critical infrastructure has been a topic of discussion at the General Staff meetings. Earlier, Zelenskyy announced a decision to strengthen the protection of the railway system, logistics, critical enterprises, and other important facilities—in particular, through the use of electronic warfare capabilities and additional air defense systems. Ukraine is also accelerating the development of high-speed interceptor drones. According to the Office of the President, such systems are intended to serve as a means of defense against Russian “suicide” missiles.

In Kyiv’s Solomyanskyi district, four people were killed when an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck an office building. Seven people were also injured in the attack.

In Kyiv, traffic on Vadym Hetman Street has been blocked due to an enemy strike.

The number of casualties from Russian attacks in Kyiv has risen, including one child.

As a reminder, in the Dnipro district of Kyiv, a residential area was destroyed as a result of a Russian attack on September 24. According to preliminary information, there were no fatalities among the residents.

Also, in Obolon, a UAV crashed onto the grounds of a garage cooperative.
