In Ukraine, civilians have registered nearly 25,000 firearms
As of October 6, 24,704 firearms and more than 15.3 million rounds of ammunition had been declared in Ukraine.
“As of October 6, 24,704 firearms and 15,383,349 rounds of ammunition (ed.) have been declared,” according to a statement from the National Police of Ukraine.
Since the start of the declaration process, citizens have voluntarily surrendered 494 firearms and 86,582 rounds of ammunition to law enforcement.
The National Police are urging citizens who have discovered firearms or ammunition to report this by calling 102 and to contact the nearest National Police unit within 24 hours.
The National Police also reminded the public that voluntarily declaring weapons exempts citizens from criminal liability.
However, this declaration requirement does not apply to all types of weapons.
“Firearms are subject to declaration, except for rifled firearms with a caliber of 12.7 mm or larger and their ammunition, machine guns, flamethrowers, mortars, and other types of heavy weapons in military service,” the police noted.
Thus, as of October 6, 24,704 firearms and 15,383,349 rounds of ammunition had already been declared in Ukraine, and citizens have voluntarily handed over hundreds more firearms and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition to law enforcement.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine on Facebook.
The State Bureau of Investigations is conducting a large-scale special operation called “Stop Trafficking,” aimed at combating the illegal trafficking of drugs, weapons, and ammunition. Law enforcement officials are paying particular attention to crimes in the military environment and schemes linked to areas where combat operations are taking place.
The National Police of Ukraine carried out the third and final stage of the nationwide anti-drug special operation “Rubicon.” In total, over the course of the three phases, law enforcement officials served notices of suspicion to 367 individuals involved in criminal proceedings and dismantled a significant portion of the drug infrastructure in Ukraine.
Prior to this, prosecutors from the Transcarpathian Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense Affairs in the Western Region filed an indictment with the court against two members of an organized group, who are accused of smuggling nearly 6 kilograms of cocaine into Ukraine and preparing the drugs for sale.
