The Supreme Court overturned the sale of a gas field for 630,000 hryvnias

The Prosecutor's Office secured the cancellation of a deal to sell a gas field that had been sold at a significantly undervalued price—just 630,000 hryvnias.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The field in question is the Pryazovskoye gas field—one of the oldest in Ukraine, discovered back in 1929. It covers nearly 35,000 hectares, has over 110 wells, and contains more than 2.2 billion cubic meters of proven gas reserves.

The decision to cancel the agreement was made on April 14, 2026, by the Commercial Court of Cassation within the Supreme Court. The court upheld the prosecutor’s office’s appeal and invalidated the auction results, the special permit, and the purchase agreement.

According to law enforcement officials, the auction was conducted with gross violations of the law, specifically without the required approval from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.

The auction was conducted using a “Dutch” model with a descending price, as a result of which the lot’s value decreased 39-fold. Only one company participated in the bidding, which the media linked to a Ukrainian politician subject to sanctions.

As a result, the right to extract gas was transferred for 630,000 hryvnias, while the estimated value of the field’s reserves is approximately 7.8 billion hryvnias.

The court agreed with the prosecutors’ arguments that the transfer of the field took place without competition, in violation of the law, and contrary to the interests of the state.

Earlier in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the state regained the rights to a valuable granite deposit through the courts after violations were identified during the auction. The case involves a plot with reserves of over 800,000 cubic meters of stone, which had been used for years despite the questionable transfer procedure, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
