Video: Drunk driver tried to flee from police in Cherkasy
In Cherkasy, patrol officers from the Tactical and Operational Response Unit detained the driver of an Audi Q5 who was violating traffic laws and was likely under the influence of alcohol.
Officers spotted the vehicle on Dakhnovska Street. The car had damage to the rear bumper and left side mirror, which could indicate involvement in a traffic accident.
While speaking with the driver, the police officers noticed signs of intoxication and asked her to undergo a sobriety test, but the woman refused.
She then got behind the wheel and attempted to flee, ignoring orders to stop. While driving down Kanivska Street, the driver made a sharp turn onto Lisnytska Street, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a curb and a traffic sign, where she was blocked by a police car.
At the scene, the woman behaved defiantly and used profanity.
Administrative reports were filed against her for driving under the influence or refusing a breathalyzer test, failing to comply with a demand to stop, violating traffic rules, which led to an accident, as well as petty hooliganism.
Authorities are also investigating reports that this vehicle may have been involved in several traffic accidents in the city.
As a reminder, former Kyiv City Council member Yaryna Ar’ieva, who was accused of causing a traffic accident while under the influence of drugs with serious consequences, received a suspended sentence.
