A government registrar suspected of illegally registering an apartment was extradited from Spain
A state registrar who had been on the run from investigators since 2022 was extradited to Ukraine from Spain. The man is suspected of abuse of authority and illegally registering ownership of an apartment, which caused nearly 1 million hryvnias in losses to the Zaporizhzhia territorial community.
The extradition took place with the participation of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor’s Office, and in cooperation with the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Spain.
According to the investigation, in May 2021, the state registrar, acting with the intent to obtain an unlawful benefit, used a forged court decision.
Based on this decision, he illegally registered ownership of a three-room apartment in Zaporizhzhia in the name of a local resident.
The apartment’s owner had died at that time, leaving no heirs. Under the law, the apartment was to become the property of the Zaporizhzhia territorial community as unclaimed inheritance and be added to the city’s housing stock.
However, ownership was registered in the name of a woman who claimed to be the deceased’s cohabitant.
As a result of these actions, according to the investigation, the local community suffered losses of nearly 1 million hryvnias.
In September 2022, under the procedural guidance of the Dnipro District Prosecutor’s Office in Zaporizhzhia, the state registrar was notified in absentia of a suspicion of violating Part 3 of Article 365-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
After that, an international arrest warrant was issued for the man.
As a result of cooperation between Ukrainian and Spanish law enforcement agencies, the suspect was successfully extradited to Ukraine.
On August 10, 2026, the suspect was handed over to Ukrainian authorities at the “Krakivets–Korchova” border crossing.
On August 12, the court ordered his pretrial detention without bail.
At the same time, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court verdict.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Prior to this, a 30-year-old resident of the Vinnytsia region, suspected of organizing the illegal smuggling of men across the state border, was extradited to Ukraine. Upon his return, he was taken into custody.
