The police have dismissed the crew that fled the scene of the terrorist attack in Kyiv
The patrol officers who were the first to arrive at the scene of the mass shooting in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital but left the scene have been officially dismissed from law enforcement.
This was announced by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko during a conversation with journalists.
The crew included a 44-year-old female officer who began her service during the first recruitment drive for the Patrol Police Department in 2015.
Her partner was a 27-year-old patrol officer who had only graduated from the Academy and begun his duties at the start of 2024.
As the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained, the woman’s primary role was at headquarters.
However, the critical shortage of personnel in Kyiv, which currently exceeds 20%, is forcing management to deploy headquarters staff to patrol the streets on weekends.
Despite the difficult staffing situation, the ministry’s stance on cowardice and dereliction of duty remains unwavering. Ihor Klymenko emphasized that such experience should have ensured an adequate response to the threat.
“This is no excuse at all—in 10 years, they could have learned how to respond. Or, more precisely, the leadership could have trained and prepared the entire personnel for extreme situations,” the minister stressed.
The ministry believes that an inadequate response to a terrorist attack is unacceptable for a law enforcement officer.
The situation caused a significant outcry, as the patrol officers had the opportunity to intervene early on but chose to retreat instead of protecting citizens.
