Zelenskyy is preparing for talks with Trump's special envoys
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Ukrainian negotiating team ahead of his meeting with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump. The head of state stated that Ukraine is ready for talks and wants to bring the war to an end, but at the same time insists on security guarantees and a dignified postwar peace.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Ukrainian negotiating team on the eve of a meeting with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump. According to Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian side is already prepared for the negotiations. The president emphasized that the team must act in unison and clearly understand Ukraine’s position during the upcoming talks.
“Meeting with our negotiating team. We are ready for talks. Ukraine has always been and will remain constructive,” Zelenskyy wrote. The president also stated that Ukraine is interested in ending the war as soon as possible. At the same time, he said, it is important not only to cease hostilities but also to ensure conditions that will prevent the war from happening again. “We are interested in bringing the war to an end. Peace is needed. Security guarantees are needed. A dignified post-war peace is needed,” the head of state noted.
Separately, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of coordinated work by the Ukrainian negotiating team. According to him, Ukraine’s positions have already been prepared, and during the negotiations, it is necessary to act in a coordinated, substantive, and realistic manner. In other words, Kyiv wants to clearly convey its key demands while leaving room for constructive dialogue with the American side.
The meeting is expected to take place with the participation of representatives of the U.S. president. These are special envoys of the American leader who are involved in discussions regarding a possible end to Russia’s war against Ukraine. For Kyiv, such negotiations are important because the U.S. plays a key role in international efforts to end the war. At the same time, the Ukrainian side insists that any agreements must take into account Ukraine’s interests and security.
Security guarantees remain one of the main issues. Ukraine seeks to obtain commitments from its partners that will help deter Russia from new aggression after a possible end to hostilities. Another important point is the terms of a future peace agreement. Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated that Ukraine is interested in ending the war, but peace must be just and must not create conditions for a new Russian attack.
The negotiating team’s meeting prior to the session with Trump’s special envoys thus served as a preparatory step for the Ukrainian side. The president made it clear that Kyiv is ready for dialogue but has its own clear position on how the war should end. Currently, the main task of the Ukrainian negotiating team is to convey this position to the American side and find common solutions that could bring an end to the war without Ukraine losing its security guarantees. The head of state announced this on Facebook.
