Zelenskyy plans to invite Charles III to Ukraine — The Guardian
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his intention to invite the British monarch, King Charles III, to make an official state visit to Ukraine as soon as security conditions permit.
According to the country’s leader, this symbolic step is intended to demonstrate to the entire world the strength of the strategic partnership and the deep historical friendship between the two nations.
A constant high-level dialogue has been maintained between the Ukrainian leadership and Buckingham Palace for quite some time.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy separately emphasized that he has a particularly warm relationship with the British monarch, whom he has met on numerous occasions during his foreign trips.
In particular, His Majesty publicly expressed his support following the high-profile political disputes that arose during the Ukrainian President’s visit to the White House last year.
Organizing such a large-scale visit during martial law requires careful preparation by the security services. Official Kyiv is aware of all potential risks but hopes for the successful implementation of this initiative in the near future.
“Today, I really want to invite him. I don’t know how that will work from a security standpoint. Yes, of course, we very much want to see him in Ukraine. I don’t know how things will turn out this year or whether it will be possible, but we certainly want to see him,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Ukrainian leader also noted that King Charles III continues to provide consistent and comprehensive support for Ukraine on the international stage.
At the same time, the President diplomatically declined to disclose specific private details of their conversation, out of respect for royal protocol.
“It is up to His Majesty to answer such questions,” he added.
