Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on calls to reinstate Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense following his resignation. According to the head of state, the personnel decision was made not because of any one specific individual, but in light of the need to improve the effectiveness of the entire command system during the war.
In an interview with a journalist, the head of state stated that he respects both Fedorov and the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, but emphasized that important military operations do not depend on a single person.
According to Zelenskyy, the success of operations—including strikes on targets within Russia—is the result of the work of many agencies: intelligence, special services, military units, and the command structure.
When asked by a journalist whether the president might reappoint Fedorov, Zelenskyy did not give a direct answer. At the same time, he made it clear that he does not want internal disputes among officials to influence military decision-making.
The president stated that during wartime, he cannot spend time resolving constant conflicts between different agencies.
“I don’t have time for conversations or negotiations. There’s no time to listen to one side first and then the other, because the two sides aren’t ready to meet every day. And I don’t need to figure out which of them is right and which is wrong,” Zelenskyy said, explaining his position.
According to him, a new approach to mobilization and new measures are needed now. Unity between the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense is essential. It is also important to address anti-ballistic missile issues.
Zelenskyy noted that he respects Syrsky and values Fedorov’s achievements in the field of drones. The president also emphasized that even the most advanced technologies cannot completely replace soldiers on the front lines, hinting that drones are far from being the sole deciding factor on the battlefield.
“If you don’t have soldiers on the front lines, you’ll lose a piece of territory, you’ll lose a village, and after the village, you’ll lose a city,” the Ukrainian president said in an interview with Sky News.
