Zelenskyy Reveals How Many Patriot Missiles Ukraine Needs This Winter — DW
For Ukraine’s energy system to get through this winter without any problems, we need 100–120 Patriot missiles each month to protect it from Russian ballistic missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized this in an exclusive interview with DW.
Russia produces about 140 ballistic missiles per month, and according to NATO standards, a 1-to-2 ratio is required to destroy them—that is, 280 interceptor missiles. Zelenskyy acknowledged that such a quantity is unattainable, and even receiving 100 missiles per month is a huge challenge for Kyiv.
“I want to have 100 to 120 Patriot missiles for these difficult months, especially the cold months,” Zelenskyy said.
He noted that Ukraine could obtain missiles from U.S. stockpiles or production facilities and is also discussing potential supplies from Middle Eastern countries, the details of which he did not disclose.
As a reminder, on September 11, the European Commission approved a new aid package for Ukraine worth 6.1 billion euros. In particular, the funds will be used to purchase PAC-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems.
Previously, Ukraine signed contracts for approximately 1,000 Patriot missiles.
Navrotskyy may be able to assist Ukraine with Patriot missiles, according to Sikorsky.
