Zelenskyy congratulated journalists on their professional holiday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated media representatives on Journalist Day, emphasizing the important role journalists play in covering the war and documenting Russia’s crimes.

In his address, the head of state emphasized that the work of Ukrainian journalists helps convey the truth about events in Ukraine to the international community and record evidence of Russian aggression.

“Everything that Ukrainian journalists document is our truth about this war and evidence of Russian crimes. And it is important that this work be of high quality and contribute to holding Russia accountable for all its crimes and attacks against life. “I thank the journalists and all media workers who are working for Ukraine and showing the world what our people are going through and how we are fighting for our independence,” Zelenskyy said.

Separately, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to foreign journalists who objectively cover events in Ukraine and help the world keep its attention on the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“Today we also thank all the concerned foreign media professionals who are on the right side of history and do not let the world forget or remain silent about what is happening in Ukraine. It is precisely this active support that helps us receive assistance at the political level,” the head of state emphasized.

The President also highlighted the need to preserve the memory of journalists who have died during the full-scale war.

“We must preserve the memory and honor the contribution to our struggle of those journalists who died because of this war,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

Journalist Day in Ukraine is celebrated annually on June 6. The professional holiday for media workers was established on May 25, 1994, by a decree of Ukraine’s second president, Leonid Kravchuk, in support of an initiative by delegates to the First All-Ukrainian Congress of Newspaper and Magazine Editors.

On this day in Ukraine, journalists, editors, cameramen, photojournalists, and all media workers who provide society with important and reliable information are traditionally honored.
