Zelenskyy: Ukraine Will Speed Up Search Operations in Volyn

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is interested in accelerating search and exhumation efforts at the burial sites of victims of the Volhynia tragedy.

According to the head of state, Ukraine continues its efforts to establish the historical truth and honor the memory of the victims in a dignified manner. Exhumation work will begin in just two days in the villages of Ostrivky and Volia Ostrovetska.

Zelenskyy emphasized that fully establishing the facts and honoring the victims in a Christian manner are important for both nations. He also noted that representatives of Ukraine and Poland jointly honored the memory of the victims during memorial events held that day.

The President stressed that today Ukraine and Poland are united by a common threat—Russian aggression—and therefore historical issues should not cast doubt on the future of the two countries and of all of Europe.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to a legislative initiative currently under consideration by the Polish Sejm to ban the ideology of the “OUN-UPA.” Kyiv called on the Polish side to refrain from unilateral steps that could strain bilateral relations and stressed the importance of continuing the historical dialogue between the countries.

As a reminder, the head of the Polish President’s Office was added to the Myrotvorets database.

Zbigniew Bogucki, the head of the Polish President’s Office, who has been added to the Myrotvorets database, stated that Poles should be awarded a peace prize for the level of assistance they have provided to Ukrainian refugees.
