The Zhytomyr bypass will be widened to four lanes
Work has begun on laying the top layer of cement-concrete pavement on the Zhytomyr Northern Bypass as part of the comprehensive reconstruction of a 22-kilometer section of the M-06 Kyiv–Chop international highway. As a result of the project, the narrowest section of the highway will be widened from two to four lanes, which will divert the main transit traffic outside the city and significantly reduce the load on Zhytomyr’s streets.
Work is currently underway on the third phase of construction, where specialists are laying approximately 300 running meters of pavement daily. At the same time, old structures are being dismantled, a new road base is being laid, engineering structures are being renovated, and communication, gas, and electricity lines, as well as drainage systems, are being relocated. The project also includes the installation of noise barriers, the construction of drainage systems, and the building of sidewalks and bus stops. Construction work on this bypass resumed in May 2026 after a long hiatus that began in 2020.

Toll highways may appear in Ukraine: the first such project is planned for Volyn, on the section from Kovel to the Ukrainian-Polish border.
In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, 22 kilometers of the Ivano-Frankivsk–Bystrytsia road will undergo major repairs; this road could become an alternative route to the “Bukovel” ski resort. The estimated cost of the work is 2.4 billion hryvnias.
