Alabuga has become the center of Shahid production in Russia

Large-scale production of "Shahed"-type attack drones—which Russia is using to carry out attacks on Ukraine—has begun in the "Alabuga" Special Economic Zone in Russia.

According to a journalistic investigation, Russia plans to manufacture 60,000 long-range drones and another 50,000 decoy drones this year. To this end, a large-scale infrastructure has been created on the complex’s grounds, including production facilities, dormitories, and an educational institution that effectively trains personnel for the defense industry.

As stated in the report, students are recruited to “Alabuga Polytech” through an aggressive advertising campaign promising high salaries. Foreigners from Africa, Asia, and Latin America are also actively recruited to work there.

Investigators note that within the complex, young people undergo systematic ideological indoctrination with a militaristic slant, and events incorporating elements of military training are organized.

In addition to its production function, “Alabuga” has a robust defense system. According to the investigation, at least 23 air defense positions have been deployed around the facility, including “Pantsir-S1” and “Tor” systems, as well as units designed to counter Ukrainian drones.

The authors of the report call Alabuga one of the most heavily defended facilities in the Russian military-industrial complex due to its key role in the production of long-range drones.
