Russian army launches over 50 strikes on Sumy border region in one day
Over the 24-hour period from 27 to 28 December 2025, Russian forces carried out 50 attacks, targeting 28 settlements across 14 territorial communities in Sumy region.
According to the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the enemy used a wide range of weapons, including guided aerial bombs, artillery, mortars, FPV drones, and unguided aerial rockets.
The Sumy and Shostka districts experienced the most intense attacks, with numerous civilian buildings and residential areas damaged. In particular, in Sumy community, private houses, vehicles, and non-residential buildings were damaged. In Sadivka, Krasnopillya, Bilopillia, and Velykopysarivka communities, private homes and critical infrastructure were also hit.
The ongoing terror from Russia has prompted local authorities to urge residents in the border areas to evacuate to safer regions, as the intensity of attacks from Russian territory shows no signs of decreasing. Reports of civilian casualties are still being verified while specialised services continue to document the impact of the strikes.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, 28 December, Russian troops carried out a large-scale attack on residential areas and critical infrastructure in Kherson, using multiple launch rocket systems.
The situation around Pokrovsk remains difficult. Ukrainian forces are concentrating units for counteroffensive operations, although their efforts are significantly hindered by adverse weather conditions.
It is worth noting that the village of Dronivka in Donetsk region remains under Ukrainian control, despite Russian attempts to capture it from two directions.
