Kyiv hospital attack was deliberate — State Emergency Service
The attack by Russian forces on a medical facility in Kyiv on the night of 5 January was intentional, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS). Officials emphasised that the strike was a direct hit, not debris from a downed drone.
DSNS Kyiv spokesperson Pavlo Petrov told Kyiv24.
The drone hit the building at the level of the second floor, while Shahed-type drones normally do not fly at such low altitudes over the city. This indicates the attack was deliberate.
At the time, patients were in the hospital’s intensive care unit, with some on ventilators, complicating evacuation after the strike.
Casualties:
- One man, born in 1995, was killed; the exact department he was in is currently unknown.
- Three injured were hospitalised: two suffered smoke inhalation, and one woman had bruising to her left elbow joint. DSNS noted that those with smoke inhalation could be in more serious condition, but final assessments are being made by doctors.
Petrov described the attack as “pure terror” and stressed that thanks to air defence, only one location required emergency response.

This strike occurred during a massive Russian air attack on Ukraine, which involved ballistic missiles and a large number of attack drones.
For context, recent attacks in Kyiv region also damaged residential buildings, including a multi-storey block and 13 private houses, resulting in one fatality.
