The attack on Starokozache claimed the lives of two people; the checkpoint has resumed operations
Two people were killed and three others were wounded as a result of a Russian attack on the “Starokozache” border crossing on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border. The strike occurred on the night of September 9, and by 2:30 p.m. that same day, the checkpoint had resumed operations.
This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. According to him, not only the checkpoint itself but also the surrounding area came under fire.
Demchenko noted that border guards had previously set up designated areas for people to take cover and shelter during shelling. These areas were used by both civilians and representatives of other border control agencies.
The State Border Guard Service explained that when there is a threat of shelling or the approach of offensive weapons, border crossing operations at the “Starokozache,” “Vynogradivka,” “Tabaky,” “Orlivka,” and “Reni” checkpoints are suspended.
After that, the border patrol must evacuate people from the checkpoint area as quickly as possible and disperse them to avoid large crowds.
