Hundreds of settlements lose power across seven regions due to shelling and bad weather

As of the morning of 12 January, Ukraine’s energy system is under significant strain due to Russian strikes and severe weather conditions.

According to Ukrenergo, consumers in seven regions remain without electricity. Problems have been reported in Odesa, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions.

Emergency repair crews are already working on restoring power where conditions allow.

The company reported that overnight, Russian forces again targeted energy facilities in several regions with drones. Due to these attacks and ongoing combat on the front lines, some consumers remain disconnected.

To stabilize the system, emergency power cuts are being implemented in certain areas, while in other regions scheduled power outages and capacity limitations for industrial consumers are in effect.

In addition to the attacks, the energy system has been impacted by weather — strong winds and ice accumulation on power lines have left 260 settlements completely or partially without electricity. The hardest-hit regions are Kyiv, Zakarpattia, Chernihiv, and Dnipropetrovsk. Repair crews from regional energy companies are working in reinforced shifts to address the outages.

It is recalled that over the past day, from the morning of 11 January to the morning of 12 January, Russian forces carried out nearly 60 strikes on Sumy Region, affecting 33 settlements in 13 communities. The enemy also attacked Odesa with drones.
