Power system under attack: blackout in Donetsk region and emergency outages in Kharkiv
Following a nighttime strike by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the government-controlled part of Donetsk region has been left in a complete blackout.
This was reported by Ukrenergo.
In Kharkiv and the surrounding region, emergency power outages have been implemented, and previously announced electricity shutdown schedules have been temporarily canceled until the energy system stabilizes.
Energy workers have already begun emergency restoration work, but exact timelines for full power recovery have not been announced.
Ukrenergo stated that Russian forces struck energy facilities in several regions of Ukraine during the night, causing additional damage to the grid.
Besides Donetsk, further outages were recorded in Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolaiv regions, where repair crews are also working.
The company emphasizes that the priority is to restore electricity to consumers as quickly as possible, particularly to critical infrastructure facilities.
Due to the consequences of massive missile and drone strikes, most regions are operating under electricity consumption restrictions: businesses follow scheduled power limits households are subject to hourly outages.
Residents are advised to check up-to-date schedules on the official websites of their regional energy companies, as the situation may change throughout the day.
Ukrainians are also encouraged to reduce the use of high-power appliances during peak load hours to avoid overloading the system.
