Fake job vacancies at the “Luhansk Nuclear Power Plant”: Russians are deceived into recruitment and sent to the front line

Fake job vacancies for the so-called “Luhansk Nuclear Power Plant”, which does not actually exist, are being widely spread on Russian online employment services. Under the guise of “safe work”, people are being deceived and recruited for subsequent deployment to combat zones.

This was reported by the Centre for Countering Disinformation.

According to the CCD, Russia continues to use fraudulent methods to replenish its forces, particularly in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Online advertisements are spreading about the recruitment of “security guards” for a non-existent nuclear power plant, aimed at the widest possible audience.

The advertisements state that the “job” is suitable for students, pensioners, people aged 45 and over, as well as individuals with health problems. Potential candidates are promised a high monthly salary and substantial one-off payments.

At the same time, the vacancies are presented as civilian employment, creating the illusion of safe and stable work far from hostilities.

In reality, as becomes clear during communication with the “employers”, this involves contract military service with the possibility of being sent “wherever the state orders”. This may include active combat zones and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

References to the “secrecy of the facility” and “internal instructions” are used to conceal the real conditions of service and to mislead people.

The Centre for Countering Disinformation emphasises that the use of the term “nuclear power plant” is intended to create the illusion of peaceful work at a strategic facility. In fact, people are deliberately exposed to mortal danger by being sent to the front line to continue the war against Ukraine.

Since 2022, Russia has recruited more than 200 Indian citizens to participate in the war against Ukraine, despite promises to release them after a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Moscow. Some of the Indians have already been returned home, but around 50 are still on the front line. Recruitment takes place through promises of education or work, followed by forced contracts after minimal training.
