The uniform hangs like on a coat hanger”: intelligence reports hunger in the Russian army
Russian soldiers fighting in the war against Ukraine are facing serious problems, including shortages of essential supplies and food.
This was reported in a recording published on 3 February on the YouTube channel of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence.
This is confirmed by intercepted phone conversations released by Ukrainian military intelligence, in which Russian troops complain about rationing food and water, pointing to the critical state of their living conditions on the front line.
In one recorded call, a Russian soldier emotionally describes his condition, complaining that they have nothing to eat or drink and that, due to exhaustion, he has lost so much weight that his uniform “hangs like on a coat hanger”.
According to the occupier, food supplies to his unit have effectively stopped.
“How can things be OK here? We don’t eat, we don’t drink a damn thing… If I turn sideways, you won’t even notice me. My uniform is just hanging like on a coat hanger!” the so-called “liberator” complains to his comrade.
The invader jokes that the only way to recognise him at the position is by his beard — he has lost so much weight.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, such complaints are typical and are appearing more and more frequently in intercepted conversations among Russian soldiers, indicating deep problems with supply and the command’s attitude towards personnel.
The HUR of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence reminded that Russian servicemen who do not want to become “cannon fodder” have an opportunity to save their lives. They are encouraged to use the “I Want to Live” project and contact it via a dedicated Telegram bot.
In response to the situation, Ukrainian intelligence once again reminded Russian soldiers of the option to avoid making a fatal choice by using the I Want to Live initiative. These reports highlight the worsening condition of Russian forces, which may affect the continuation of the war in Ukraine and underscore the growing presence and determination of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the front line.
