The active phase of the war is unlikely to end in 2026 — Ogryzko
The active phase of the war between Ukraine and Russia is unlikely to end by the end of 2026, as there are currently no signs of effective external pressure on the Kremlin.
This view was expressed by Volodymyr Ogryzko, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and head of the Center for Russian Studies.
According to him, China has no interest in forcing Moscow to end the war. On the contrary, the current situation is increasing Russia’s dependence on Beijing, which gives China additional political and economic leverage.
Ogryzko noted that if China truly intended to actively influence the situation, this would be reflected in the intensity of Russian attacks against Ukraine.
The diplomat also expressed doubt that the United States currently has an effective mechanism to compel Russia to end the war.
In his view, U.S. President Donald Trump’s rhetoric has also shifted recently. He is increasingly praising the Ukrainian military’s performance and criticizing Ukraine less frequently.
Ogryzko believes that Washington’s demands on Moscow have not yet yielded results, so there is currently no basis for predicting a rapid end to hostilities.
