General Staff names the hottest sections of the front as of 8 January
As of the beginning of the current day, 8 January, 54 combat engagements have been recorded along the front line. The Defence Forces continue to repel the enemy’s attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory, inflicting significant losses in manpower and equipment.
According to the General Staff, the highest intensity of attacks is observed on the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka directions.
On the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces carried out 18 assault attempts in the areas of Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Udachne, Rodynske and Dachne. Ukrainian defenders have already repelled 16 attacks, while two engagements are still ongoing. Despite active infantry manoeuvres by Russian troops, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding their positions, particularly on the approaches to Myrnohrad and in the northern part of Pokrovsk.
Situation on other sectors of the front by direction:
- Kostiantynivka direction: The enemy carried out eight assaults near Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia and Rusyn Yar.
- Huliaipole direction: Ten combat engagements were recorded; Russian aviation struck Rizdvianka and Zaliznychne.
- Southern Slobozhanshchyna direction: Five attacks were recorded, three of which are ongoing near Vilcha and Fyholivka.
- Lyman direction: Russian forces attacked three times towards Drobysheve and Stavky; fighting continues.
- Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk directions: Two assaults were repelled. At the same time, border communities in Sumy region (Kucherivka and Ryzhivka) remain under Russian artillery fire.
Total enemy losses as of the morning of 8 January 2026 have exceeded 1.215 million personnel, with around 1,400 Russian troops eliminated in the past 24 hours alone. Today, missile forces and artillery units of the Defence Forces struck two enemy troop concentration areas and a UAV control point. The Air Force neutralised 70 enemy drones during a morning attack on eastern and southern regions of the country.
Over the course of 7 January, 275 combat engagements were recorded along the front line, with the highest level of Russian activity again observed on the Pokrovsk direction.
The settlement of Andriivka in Sumy region is fully under the control of Ukraine’s Defence Forces. Reports claiming that the village was allegedly occupied by Russian troops are not true, the “Kursk” operational grouping stated.
