Jysk Lost Five Stores Due to Russian Attacks
Over the past month, Russian strikes have destroyed five Jysk stores in Sumy, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and Zaporizhzhia. The company stated that, thanks to adherence to safety protocols during the attacks, there were no casualties among employees or customers. Employees of the destroyed stores are being offered transfers to other cities in Ukraine.
In Zaporizhzhia, a Jysk store was destroyed as a result of a Russian attack. This was reported by Yevhen Ivanitsa, Country Director of Jysk Ukraine, on LinkedIn, according to Glavkom. According to him, this is already the fifth store in the chain in Ukraine that Russian troops have destroyed over the past month.
Jysk stores in several cities have been hit. These include Sumy, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and Zaporizhzhia. In Zaporizhzhia alone, two of the chain’s stores were destroyed during this period. One of them was struck very recently. Thus, Russian attacks continue to affect not only residential buildings and critical infrastructure, but also ordinary places that people use every day.
The store in Kryvyi Rih was destroyed back in August
One of the Jysk stores in Kryvyi Rih was destroyed on August 21. The Russian strike hit the “Soniachna Galereya” shopping center, where the chain’s store was located. As a result of the attack, the store sustained such extensive damage that it effectively ceased to exist.
This incident was one of the first in the current series of attacks, which caused Jysk to lose several stores in a short period of time. According to Yevhen Ivanitsa, despite the destruction, the company managed to avoid casualties among employees and customers. “Most importantly, compliance with all safety requirements once again allowed us to avoid casualties among our employees and customers,” Ivanitsa noted.
Employees Are Being Offered Relocation
Following the destruction of the stores, the company plans to take care of its employees. Jysk will offer employees of the destroyed stores the opportunity to relocate to other cities in Ukraine, where the chain’s stores continue to operate.
In other words, employees will not simply have to look for new jobs because their store was destroyed. The company plans to offer them the opportunity to continue working at other retail locations. This applies to employees of stores that were destroyed as a result of Russian attacks over the past month.
Cities Are Losing Their Familiar Stores
Yevhen Ivanytsia also drew attention to a broader problem. According to him, due to constant Russian attacks, Ukrainian cities are gradually losing familiar places and elements of everyday life. This is not just about individual stores. In some cities, large retail chains are already scaling back their presence or ceasing operations entirely.
In particular, Ivanitsa noted that certain large chains, including “Epicenter,” Sinsay, and “Foxtrot,” have already left Sumy and Zaporizhzhia. For cities that are regularly subjected to Russian strikes, this means more than just economic losses. Stores, shopping centers, and other places that were once part of everyday city life are disappearing.
Jysk Continues to Operate in Ukraine
Despite the destruction of five stores, the Jysk chain continues to operate in Ukraine. The company adheres to safety requirements at its retail locations. According to Ivanitsa, it was precisely this adherence to such rules that helped prevent casualties during the attacks on the stores. At the same time, every store destroyed represents significant material losses for the business—including the premises themselves, merchandise, equipment, and jobs.
Russian attacks are also forcing the company to adjust its operations in cities located closer to the front lines or that are regularly targeted by shelling. Over the past month, Jysk has lost five retail locations in Sumy, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and Zaporizhzhia. However, the company continues to operate in other cities across Ukraine and is offering employees from the destroyed stores transfers to operating retail locations.
Klitschko also reported damage to the capital’s civilian and transportation infrastructure. The full extent of the attack and the number of casualties may still be determined.
Separately, a fire was reported at the “Shayba” market near the train station. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the station building was not damaged.
Amid the strikes, passengers were urged to avoid Ukrzaliznytsia facilities.
Due to the heightened air threat, Kyiv City Express service was temporarily suspended in both directions this morning. “Ukrzaliznytsia” also reported that one of its employees was injured while returning home after his shift.
In addition, a Ukrnafta gas station in Kyiv was completely destroyed following a Russian attack.
