Kallas proposes limiting the size of Russia’s army in a future peace deal
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has put forward an initiative aimed at the demilitarisation of the aggressor state.
During a visit to Finland, she stressed the need for legally binding limits on Russia’s military potential.
According to the diplomat, any sustainable peace agreement must include clear provisions on reducing the size of Russia’s armed forces. This, she argued, would create genuine long-term security guarantees for European countries.
Kallas emphasised that the international community should shift the focus of discussions on military restrictions. She noted that the threat does not come from Ukraine, which is defending its sovereignty.
“Right now, negotiations are discussing limits on the Ukrainian army. But let’s be honest: the problem is not Ukraine’s army. The problem for your country, my country, and many European states has always been the Russian army,” Kallas underlined.
It should be recalled that Ukraine plans to persuade Donald Trump to accelerate peace negotiations. Discussions on peace in Ukraine have also been linked to the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
