Kyiv IT specialist receives life sentence for directing strikes on thermal power plants

Based on materials provided by the Security Service of Ukraine, an FSB agent who helped the enemy attack energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The perpetrator developed routes for Russian missiles and drones, attempting to guide them “around” Ukrainian air defence systems.

Counterintelligence officers detained the traitor in July 2025.

During searches, law enforcement officers seized a smartphone containing evidence of criminal activity, including marked aerial “corridors” for strikes on critical infrastructure in the capital.

The convicted individual is a 32-year-old IT specialist from Kyiv who was recruited remotely.

The IT specialist initiated contact with the Russian special services himself via Telegram channels, offering his assistance in the war against Ukraine in exchange for financial reward.

To carry out his tasks, the traitor personally travelled around the Kyiv region, recording the geolocations of operational energy facilities on electronic maps.

He also took detailed photographs of the façades of potential “targets”, clearly linking them to the surrounding area.
