Lukashenko has provided Belarusian sanatoriums for the treatment of Russian occupiers

Lukashenko has provided Belarusian sanatoriums for the treatment of Russian occupiers

The Belarusian authorities have organised a system of sanatorium and rehabilitation treatment for Russian occupiers who took part in the full-scale war against Ukraine.

According to an investigation by the Belarusian Investigative Centre (BIC), since 2023 the key rehabilitation facility has been the Lepel Military Sanatorium in the Vitebsk region, which is subordinated to the Ministry of Defence of Belarus. In addition, Russian servicemen are received at the “Chaborok” facility in the Brest region and “Sosnovy Bor”near Minsk, where the occupiers are provided with medical care and health services.

Free vouchers for participants in the aggression against Ukraine are issued by Russian state institutions and charitable organisations, including the “Defenders of the Fatherland” Foundation, headed by Putin’s niece, Anna Tsivilyova. These programmes are financed through the budget of the Union State of Russia and Belarus: in 2025, 26 million roubles were allocated for this purpose. The legal basis for treating combatants was created by amending a resolution of the Union State Council of Ministers, which had previously applied only to World War II veterans but was expanded in 2022 to cover participants in the current war.

Journalists from the BIC spoke with one of the patients at the Lepel sanatorium — Anton Kubasov, a Russian sniper and reconnaissance operative who took part in the assault on Kreminna in the Luhansk region. The militant confirmed the high standard of care and noted that rehabilitation in Belarus became his only form of compensation, as he had received neither the promised medals nor financial payments from Russia.

This practice of using Belarusian medical infrastructure once again confirms the role of Lukashenko’s regime as a direct accomplice in Russia’s armed aggression against the Ukrainian people.

More than 1,300 Belarusian citizens are taking part in hostilities on Russia’s side against Ukraine. At least 314 of them have already been killed.

Fighters of the “Spartan” Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine have captured a citizen of Belarus who was fighting in the ranks of the Russian army.
