Moldova restricted border crossings with Ukraine after a Russian drone strike on a bridge
On Thursday, December 18, a Russian strike drone hit a bridge in Odesa region near the border with Moldova, prompting the temporary closure of several border checkpoints.
According to an official statement from the Moldovan Border Police, the “Palanca — Mayaky-Udobne” and “Tudora — Starokazache” checkpoints were closed. The restrictions were introduced for safety reasons until all circumstances of the incident are clarified and potential risks for citizens are assessed.
Earlier on December 18, a Russian explosive-laden drone struck the bridge near Mayaky-Udobne. This crossing over the Dniester River on the Odesa–Reni highway is strategically important for southern districts of the region.
