Vitaliy Stefan Magura, a historian and soldier, was killed on the front lines
While defending Ukraine, Vitaliy Shtefan, a soldier with the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Magura” and a historian, was killed on the front lines.
He joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after working in his field and teaching history.
After completing his education, Vitaliy worked as a historian, taught history, and served as a research associate at the “Museum of the Occupation of Kyiv,” a branch of the Kyiv City History Museum.
He later decided to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Shtefan served in the 1st Battalion of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Magura” as a rifleman and assistant grenadier.
In October 2024, he went missing in action in the Kursk sector. It was later confirmed that he had been killed in action.
The funeral service for Vitaliy Stefan will take place on Wednesday, August 19.
Participants are asked to gather between 9:00 and 9:20 a.m. at 5 Novogospitalna Street, across from the exit of the Main Military Hospital; look for the Zablotsky Clinic as a landmark.
After gathering, transportation will be provided to the National Military Memorial Cemetery.
The farewell ceremony at the cemetery will begin at 11:00 a.m.

The news of the soldier’s death was reported by the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, where Vitalii Shtefan studied.
As a reminder, on August 14, it was confirmed that 42-year-old soldier, freestyle wrestling coach, and Master of Sports of Ukraine Kostyantyn Solomakin—who had long been considered missing in action—had been killed. He died on May 26, 2025, in the Donetsk region, and his identity was confirmed following the exhumation and identification of his body.
Earlier, Oleksiy Yukov, the head of the “Platsdarm” search and rescue team from Sloviansk, was killed.
Prior to that, arm-wrestling champion Ihor Hladkyi was killed on the front lines.
Dmytro Gladirenko, a saxophonist from Chernihiv, was killed on the front lines.
