Over 15,000 people passed through Russian torture centers in Kherson Oblast

During the occupation of Kherson Oblast, Russian forces created an extensive network of torture centers where civilians were subjected to abuse.

This was reported by Oleksiy Butenko, head of the department for combating crimes committed in armed conflict conditions at the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, in a publication by Ukrinform.

According to the regional prosecutor’s office, over 15,000 Ukrainians passed through these torture centers. The majority of detainees suffered severe physical and psychological abuse.

Investigative authorities have already documented over 33,000 war crime incidents in Kherson Oblast. The occupiers established 38 illegal detention sites where torture was systematically used.

Methods of torture included beatings with stun guns, electric shocks, deprivation of food and water, and psychological pressure. In some cases, detainees were held in terrible conditions without access to medical care.

The scale of these crimes is striking in its systematic nature and brutality. Russian forces specifically targeted activists, volunteers, ATO veterans, and their families. People were also tortured for holding pro-Ukrainian views, refusing to cooperate with the occupation authorities, or merely being suspected of connections with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Law enforcement continues to document every case to ensure accountability for the perpetrators.

The occupiers have also stockpiled 2,000 drones for deep strikes across Ukraine.
